Flash Motors, Guyana Energy Agency partner to establish electric vehicle charging infrastructure

Flash Motors has entered a partnership with the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) to provide electric vehicle charging infrastructure, software, installation services, and training to enable the Government of Guyana’s transition to electric transportation.

The company, in a statement, noted that the project is significant for Guyana as it marks the first publicly accessible charging infrastructure along the country’s travelled coast, signaling the market’s readiness for an electric mobility future.

The project follows Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh’s proposal to remove the 14 per cent value-added tax charged for importing new electric vehicles, and the government’s facilitation of training for Guyanese auto-technicians in EV maintenance and repair.

Flash Motors indicated that it would also explore the supply and procurement of electric vehicles for the Guyana Energy Agency.

Flash Motors, regional distributor of the ABB and Flash Charge Intelligent Platform, will bring the ABB’s DC charging technology to Guyana in April. The company will provide assistance in installation, training, and ongoing operations support for the public charging stations.

“I think the completion of these public EV charging stations will have a profound impact on that, as it is meant to catalyse that interest. And those persons who are hesitant about investing in an EV will have an assurance that if they run out of charge on the road, they can now connect and access [a station],” Sharma said.

The infrastructure will be located in six places along Guyana’s coast, and the project aims to establish publicly accessible electric vehicle charging infrastructure, promoting the development of Guyana’s e-mobility ecosystem.

“The Guyana Energy Agency is making an important investment to ensure a successful transition to an e-mobility future,” said Carey Escoffery, director and CEO of Flash Motors.

“We are happy to support this initiative by supplying world-class charging infrastructure from ABB,  the world’s leading EV charging service equipment manufacturers. Our team is fully trained and equipped to supply, install and manage charging stations suitable for passenger vehicles, commercial trucks, and transit buses. We also provide management software and fleet integration services to optimise major investments in electric vehicles for cost and performance.  We will be following up this project with the supply of EVs into the Guyana market for retail, goverment, and corporate clients later on this year,” he added.

The project marks a major step in Guyana’s automotive transition, enabling a shift to a sustainable form of energy and promoting high penetration of renewable energy in the electricity sector.
